Colored Pencil Techniques
Everyone is creative. Creativity is hardwired into our DNA by God himself and all of us are made to be creative people. The Bible tells us this in Genesis 1:27:
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
God is the greatest of all creators and he made us in his image. He has given us the task of representing him on earth. When we create, it pleases God. He sees us "imaging" him to the rest of the world. But creativity is hard work. It takes work to create. It requires:

- working faithfully over extended periods of time
- a willingness to receive criticism with humility
- sweat and elbow grease
- patience, diligence, and faithfulness

Objectives:
During this study you will be:
- introduced to colored pencils
- exposed to different colored pencil techniques and applications
- provided an opportunity to express your individual style through a colored pencil project
Materials:
paper, colored pencils, pencils, erasers, rubbing alcohol, washable markers, permanent markers, q-tips
Process:
- for 15 minutes draw whatever you would like in colored pencils
- look at your drawing--what do you like about it? what drawing techniques did you use?
- using paper, colored pencils, and a pencil and eraser, watch the following videos and create a colored pencil technique guide
Practice the techniques you have learned. You need to:
- find 3 images from magazines that show texture
- cut them out and glue them to a piece of drawing paper
- using the techniques you just learned, replicate each texture as closely as you can with colored pencils
- select your subject matter and the techniques you will use
- create a colored pencil drawing
- when your drawing is complete, answer the following questions: What techniques did you learn? How did you apply them to your finished work? What do you like about your project? Was it successful? If you were to do this drawing over, what would you do different?
- share your project and what you learned with the class
