Line Rugs
There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven.
Ecclesiastes 3:1
In this verse God tells us there is a time for everything. There is a time for math, a time for reading, a time for play, and right now is a time for art.
Objectives:
In this lesson you will explore various materials, develop fine motor skills, learn about various types of lines, and create a mixed media piece of art.

- Construction Paper (9"x12" white and any 12"x18" bright color)
- Line reference printouts for each table
- Tempera paint
- Markers
- Crayons or oil pastels
- Glue
- Scissors
Process:
- Watch this video:
- What types of lines did you see in the video?
- Look at these lines.
- Can you think of lines we could add?
- Get a piece of white construction paper and markers. Write your name on the back.
- Fill your paper with the various lines we discussed. You may reference the line printout if you need to.
- Using tempera paint, paint between your marker lines. Put your paper on a tray to dry.
- Using oil pastels, draw more lines or fill in areas without marker or paint.
- Glue your paper to a larger colored piece of construction paper, being careful to get your line drawing in the center.
- Cut the larger construction paper from the outer edge to the painted construction paper to create fringe.
- Look at each others artwork. What lines do you see?
