Who do you think you are?
Mark 12:30-31 says: "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.' The second is this, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is not other commandment greater than these."
Louis Giglio (2016, p. 32) states, "From the time we are born, relationships are constantly shaping who we are and how we engage with the world around us. Beginning with how we see ourselves, we develop a view of God and others that impacts the way we relate to our parents," our brothers and sisters, our friends, and our relationships..."Jesus knew there was a powerful dynamic between the way we love God, the way we love our neighbor, and the way we love ourselves...God wants us to get to the place where when we look into the mirror, we actually see what God sees in us and hear what God says about us." If you are a follower of Christ, this is what the Bible says about who God designed you to be...

In this lesson you will explore, experiment, and learn the basic elements for creating an artwork using your name.

Process:
- Paul Klee was a Swiss-German artist that lived from 1879-1940. Look at artwork by Paul Klee: Senecio, 1922, Sans Titre (Deux poissons, un hameçon, un ver), 1901, Fruit on Blue, 1958, Fire at Full Moon, 1933Bauhaus Postcard, 1923. Compare and contrast these artworks. What do they have in common? How are they different? What stands out?
- Klee experimented with different media and different styles. Look carefully at the artwork with grids: Fire at Full Moon, 1933Bauhaus Postcard, 1923. He created these types of paintings throughout his life to experiment with color.
- Your name art will incorporate Klee's grid idea. Look at this Grid example.
- Use crayon to draw out your grid. (You can use a ruler or draw it free hand.)
- Look at the Letter guide.
- Using a crayon, write each letter of your name in the boxes in the grid. Follow the Letter guide and make sure your letters are touching the edges of the box.
- Look at this Completed example. Use watercolor to color in the shapes created by the letters.
- After all the spaces are filled in with watercolor, let project dry.
- Once dry, use yellow watercolor and go over the entire paper.
- Take your time. Work slowly and carefully.
- Be ready to discuss the following questions: How does your work compare with Paul Klee's artwork? Can you easily pick out the letters of your name? Why or why not? How did adding the final layer of yellow watercolor change the look of your artwork?
