- Introduce Bible verse, ‘I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well’ (PSALM 139:14). "We live in an amazing world. The greatest of all creations is man himself, the marvelous machine—precise and efficient. The human body has a dynamic framework of bone and cartilage called the skeleton. The human skeleton is flexible, with hinges and joints that were made to move." Joseph Paturi
- Edgar Degas was a French artist that loved to show the movement of the body in his artwork. He spent a lot of time observing and sketching people. One of his favorite things to sketch was ballerinas. He used his sketches to create paintings. Check out his paintings Ballet Rehearsal and Ballet Rehearsal on Stage. Degas also liked to sketch and paint jockeys on their horses. Look at these paintings The Parade, The Gentlemen's Race, and The Jockey.
- Students will press their thumb in yellow paint on paper plate. They will put a yellow thumbprint in the center of each 4 1/2" x 6" paper. Let dry.
- Create thumbprint people, adding arms, legs, hair and objects to the thumbprint to show movement (runner, diver, cheerleader, jump roping, skateboarder, ballerina, bicyclist, roller skater, baseball player)
- Each student will choose their favorite thumbprint people to mount on display paper.
